Export Originals

To share images in their original quality, choose the option “Export Original”. The unedited original, together with a meta-data XML file, will be exported to a Windows folder of your choice. The XML file contains descriptors such as keywords, categories and image captions, as well as the settings of any image tools.

If the recipient of the images is also a StudioLine user, then importing the images with their XML meta-data will also import your descriptors and apply the same image tools that you chose.

Choose the topmost option “Export Original”.




Enter the “Path” of the target folder, or click the “Browse” button. After the export has completed, StudioLine will automatically open the target folder in the Windows Explorer.

HINT: Keep the default setting “*” for “File Name”. This will use the names found in the StudioLine image archive as file names for the exported files.





The drop-down list for “File Name” offers ways to construct file names, e.g., by combining descriptors with a sequence number.

Choose “{number}{descriptor}” from the drop-down list. This will open the “Insert Descriptor” panel. Choose any descriptor (e.g., “Image Name”) and click “OK” to confirm.

Each exported image will be given a file name consisting of a sequential number, followed by its image name.

Export in Target Size and Quality

The drop-down list “Format” offers the common graphic file formats that are understood by third-party applications. For the “JPG” file format you can also choose an image quality.

HINT: The choice of file format depends on the intended use for the exported images. Internet applications suggest the use of “JPG” files, which are compressed for speedy transfer and supported by all web browsers. A “lossless” file format, such as “TIFF” or “PNG” are better suited for print and archival purposes; the resulting files are often significantly larger.

De-select the option “Export Original”.

Next, determine the maximum output size. This setting controls the exported file for each of the selected images. Of course, the information in the image archive and your originals remain unchanged.

The drop-down list “Maximum Image Size” offers common output sizes for screen and print output. Exported images are always scaled down proportionally, avoiding “stretched” or “squeezed” appearance caused by distorted aspect ratios. By choosing a size of 640x480, the width would not exceed 640 pixels and the height would not exceed 480 pixels. If, for example, an image was taken with an SLR camera producing 2 by 3 image proportions, then the height of the exported image would be adjusted to 427 pixels.

Rather than using preset values, you can also choose to enter custom figures.

HINT: The option “Automatically Adapt to Orientation” will swap the height and width values as needed for landscape vs. portrait orientation. Choosing a maximum image size of 640x480, would allow 640 pixels as the maximum width for a landscape image and 640 pixels as the maximum height for a portrait image. Deselecting this option would restrict portrait images to a height of only 480 pixels!

Below the “Format” and “Quality” choices follows a list of advanced options. Selected options are shown with a checkmark. To select or deselect an option, or to change its settings, click the appropriate list entry.

Apply Image Tools
The option “Apply Image Tools” is set by default. Deselecting this option will ignore any StudioLine image tools that you used against this image. This is only useful if you intend to export the image in its unedited, raw form.

Colorize Transparent Areas
Transparent areas (“Alpha Channel”) are colored white, when you export images in certain file formats, such as JPG or BMP. You can choose a different color for transparent areas by selecting this option.
If you are exporting to file formats that do support transparency, such as TIFF or PNG, and if you want to maintain the alpha channel information, then you must deselect this option.

Crop to Aspect Ratio
Exported images can be cropped, if the aspect ratio of an image is different than the proportions chosen for “Maximum Image Size”. This option is handy if the exported files are submitted for print output. The export preview will allow you to crop each output image individually.

Overlay Text
Use descriptor values, a copyright notice or any other text as watermarks that overlay the image.

Increase Sharpness
With this option, you can restore crispness to images that are significantly reduced in size. If necessary, customize the sharpness setting for individual images in the export preview panel.

With Sound (if available)
This option will include any voice annotations or other sound bits that are associated with an image.

Omit Camera Specific Exif Data
This option is not selected by default, resulting in exported files that contain all Exif information. Choose this option if you would like to omit camera data (such as camera model, exposure time, etc.) from the exported images.

Add XML Information
This option will output metadata from the image archive, such as descriptors and image tool settings, to an XML file for each image. The XML file is available for third party applications and is used by StudioLine during a subsequent import.

With the “Preview / Detail Settings” button, you will be able to see the images that would result from your export settings as well as adjust settings for individual images to further optimize the outcome.

With the “Save Settings” button, you will be able to retain your settings for reuse later. This allows you to create any number of different settings that accommodate the various unique requirements by certain applications or clients.

Advantage: Saving Time and Global Availability
An added benefit of saved export settings is their global availability for various StudioLine functions, including:

- Export Folders
- Create Image CD/DVDs
- Send Images via Email
- Send Images via DigitalXpress

This saves time and provides consistency.

To reuse previously saved export settings, choose a setting from the “Saved Settings” drop-down list near the top of the “Export Object As…” panel.

To delete a saved setting, select it from the drop-down list and then click the “Delete” button (red “X”) next to the list.

Quick Preview Navigation

The film strip view below the preview display offers thumbnails for quick one-click access to an individual image, rather than having to browse through one image at a time.

Optimize Sharpness Individually

The “Sharpen Image” option allows you to apply unique settings for the “Unsharp Mask” tool to individual images. This will guarantee optimal results because the effect of the “Unsharp Mask” algorithm is highly dependent on the image size of the export file.

The preview panel will display the to-be-exported images based on your current export settings, including image size and quality.

You can choose zoom factors between 12.5% and 1,600% for your preview.

The status line indicates the resulting image size (in pixels) and estimates the size of the exported graphics file.

Compression Quality

The preview picture always reflects the current result of the “Compression Quality” setting. Any movement of the slider control or input of a percent value will update the preview instantly.

Note: Larger percentage values represent a higher quality of the image, but also a larger file size.

With StudioLine Photo Classic you can export your images, optimized to best suit any number of applications and clients. The new “film strip” in the export preview saves lots of time when verifying your export settings.

Before submitting your images to a print service or photo-sharing community, they need to be exported from the image archive. Exported images can be easily optimized to best suit a particular application or client.

Select the images to be exported. To open the panel “Export Objects As…”, choose “Export (Save As)” and “Images” from the “File” menu.

To combine images from different folders in a single export task, use the “Classifications and Attributes” tab (“View” | “Show” menu) to mark images for export. All marked images can then be exported in a one step.
