Indexed in Seconds – Found in Seconds

StudioLine Photo Classic 3 and StudioLine Web lets you create your own list of keywords and categories. With a simple mouse action you can then associate them with any matching images. Another mouse click will show all images for a given keyword.

Read on to learn how this works and what other advanced options are available.

Create Keywords

·

In Album view, open a folder with images that you would like to index. Near the

bottom of the left pane, click the "Classifications" button.

·

Click the "Create Keyword" button. You may also click the right mouse button in the

keyword list and choose "New Keyword" from the context menu.

·

The new keyword entry is created. Overtype the "New Keyword" label with the

desired text.

A special object status icon will appear below images that have been tagged with a keyword.

Hint:
If you load any TIFF or JPEG images that contain IPTC/NAA keywords, then those keywords will be added to the "Imported Keywords" node. This is another StudioLine time-saver because you won't have to reenter information more than once.

Keeping Your Keywords in the Picture

Any keywords that you associate with an image are automatically appended to the IPTC descriptor "Keywords". This way your keywords are included after you export them in TIFF or JPEG file formats.

If a keyword should be appended to another descriptor in addition or instead of the IPTC "Keywords", click it with the right mouse button and choose "Set Target Descriptor" from the context menu. Choose the desired descriptor to hold this keyword in the panel "Target Descriptor". (This setting is not retro-active; images that were previously tagged with this keyword will not be updated to the new descriptor.)

Tag Images with Keywords

·

To associate an image with a keyword, simply drag the keyword to the desired

image. If you prefer, you can instead drag an image to a keyword.

·

To associate the same keyword with multiple images, select your images first. Then

either drag the keyword to one of the selected images, or, simply double-click on the keyword.

Organizing Keywords

·

Keywords can be organized in nested groups. To open or close a group, click it

with the mouse.

·

To create a new group, click the button "New Group"

·

To rearrange keywords, click on its icon and then drag it to a new location, either

in the same or different group. Use the same method to move entries between the keyword and category lists.

Hint: If you have an extensive keyword list, switch the view to use small icons. To do so, click the button "Switch View" in the classification pane's toolbar.

Finding Images

·

To view all images associated with a particular keyword, click the keyword's

checkbox. Now the thumbnail pane will show only matching images, no matter in which image archive folder they are located.

·

If you activate another keyword (by clicking its checkbox), then the images

matching the second keyword will also appear in the thumbnail pane. You use this method to expand your selection.

·

To restrict the display to those images where all selected keywords match, click

the checkbox "All Images" below the keyword lists. See the following screenshot for illustration.

Export Keyword Lists

Keyword and category lists can be exported in XML or plain text format. If you share your lists with people who supply you with pictures on a regular basis, your partners can make certain that they'll match your classifications.

·

To export a particular group, click it with the right mouse button and choose

"Export" from the context menu.

·

When importing a keyword list you can choose the group to which the list will be

added. Click the desired group with the right mouse button and choose "Import" from the context menu.

Give it a Try

Download our sample file. Unpack the content of the zip file and load the JPEG image files to your image archive.  When you switch to "Classifications" view, you'll find the keywords from these two images in the group "Imported Keywords".
